House Concert TOMORROW for NY Singer/Pianist Todd Alsup

Tessa and I are thrilled to be hosting a house concert tomorrow night for a Singer/Songwriter from New York City, Todd Alsup. He’ll be sharing songs from his new album Currency, and hopefully a few pop/R&B covers as well! I’ll be opening with a some jazz and a couple of new age pieces from Piano on 24th. We have thoroughly enjoyed Todd’s performances at Redeye Grill, across the street from Carnegie Hall in NYC, because of his soulful interpretation of cover songs and amazing vocal technique. (Indeed, we like some of his covers better that the originals!) Todd has residency at Redeye, so if you’re passing through and want to get a great meal with live music in NY, see if he’s playing! Now back to tomorrow’s house concert....

Washington Nationals Dream Foundation

I had the grand pleasure of playing piano for the Washington Nationals Dream Gala a couple of weeks ago – and what a night it was! Most of the players were there, along with spouses/significant others, several hundred people, and the Presidents! (The huge president heads that you see running around during baseball games.) There was a silent auction and lots of mingling going on as I played background jazz standards, blues … and Aladin’s “A Whole New World,” requested by pitcher Gio Gonzales. The Presidents would come by every once in a while, and at one point Teddy hopped up on stage to air jam next to me. Luckily, the moment was captured and tweeted by a journalist 🙂 Best pic of #DreamGala to date pic.twitter.com/c2oKO2SCp1 —...

Playing Jazz at Another Great Party

I’ve now had the pleasure of playing piano for United Therapeutics twice – and what a special night it was both times! I already wrote about the 1920’s speakeasy that I played in last December, and last month the event was themed like a classic car repair garage, with so much attention paid to every last detail. The crew from EMT set up all the lighting and sound and were great to work with. Thanks to...

Live Music for the Capitol Hill Restoration Society

Playing for the Capitol Hill Restoration Society’s 60th anniversary was probably one of the most educational gigs I’ve had for a long time. We heard all sorts of great stories from long time Capitol Hill residents that spanned the evolution of the neighborhood to the legal mechanisms of city development to the story of some people who clasped arms in front of a bulldozer to save a historic site. Between all of that was a lots of food, cake, and live jazz piano provided by Yours Truly, in the lovely new Baxter Hall at St. Mark’s. Also, they posted CHRS 60th Anniversary photos. Overall, it was a great night and if you’re in the area I recommend signing up for a Capitol Hill...
