Live Music for the Capitol Hill Restoration Society

Playing for the Capitol Hill Restoration Society’s 60th anniversary was probably one of the most educational gigs I’ve had for a long time. We heard all sorts of great stories from long time Capitol Hill residents that spanned the evolution of the neighborhood to the legal mechanisms of city development to the story of some people who clasped arms in front of a bulldozer to save a historic site. Between all of that was a lots of food, cake, and live jazz piano provided by Yours Truly, in the lovely new Baxter Hall at St. Mark’s. Also, they posted CHRS 60th Anniversary photos. Overall, it was a great night and if you’re in the area I recommend signing up for a Capitol Hill...

Valentine’s Day Music at the DoubleTree

Our Valentine’s performance was a total blast! It had all the important elements: great people, amazing venue, and of course, love. We spent the evening singing through nearly all of the love songs we knew – lots of jazz standards, some latin, and some pop as the guests rotated slowly around us, enjoying the music and crystal-clear views of the Pentagon and downtown Washington. 1920’s-themed Holiday Party

This just may have been the most fun themed party I’ve been to. It was set in the Roaring 20’s with a live jazz band, professional dancers, horse races, photo booths, while I played solo jazz piano in the ‘speakeasy.’ The decorations were superb, the people were a blast and the food was incredible! I hope they do it again next year …

Real Pianos at the Tabard Inn

Real Pianos at the Tabard Inn

The Tabard Inn is a special place. The dark corners, overstuffed cozy furniture, period decorations, and real fireplace (you know, actually burning real wood) make it feel like you’ve stepped into a old travelers’ inn somewhere just outside of Dublin in the early 1900’s. No one had Irish accents and it didn’t smell like whisky, but even while serving brunch and offering wifi, The Tabard Inn still comes from a different time. What does every place like this need (at least in my eyes)? A piano or two! Which is what makes the Tabard Inn extra special 🙂 I played both pianos (rooms 24 and 26) for a wedding and reception last weekend and look forward to going back soon! If not to play, at least to have brunch …   My tablet...
