A Weekend at the Old Town Theater

I had the pleasure of playing at Alexandria’s newly restored Old Town Theater last weekend. For each show (two on Friday, two on Saturday), I played the “walk-in set” for about half an hour before showtime, a quick jingle as each act was introduced, and a quick “walk-out” piece.

The host was Mark Matusof and he introduced magicians Karen Beriss and Osmar, before the main act, Chris Barnes from Milwaukee.

Having been re-opened in December 2012, the Old Town Theater is poised to return as a popular venue in downtown Alexandria. It’s almost 100 years old, and although much of the specific history has been lost of the years, immediately upon entering you know that you’re in a real vintage place. The second floor has a bar and balcony that overlooks the stage and the 220+ seats below.

Being part of this lineup was a blast, and I’m looking forward to being there July 18 when Tessa and I will play a couple of jazz sets!
