Real Pianos at the Tabard Inn

Real Pianos at the Tabard Inn

The Tabard Inn is a special place. The dark corners, overstuffed cozy furniture, period decorations, and real fireplace (you know, actually burning real wood) make it feel like you’ve stepped into a old travelers’ inn somewhere just outside of Dublin in the early 1900’s. No one had Irish accents and it didn’t smell like whisky, but even while serving brunch and offering wifi, The Tabard Inn still comes from a different time. What does every place like this need (at least in my eyes)? A piano or two! Which is what makes the Tabard Inn extra special 🙂 I played both pianos (rooms 24 and 26) for a wedding and reception last weekend and look forward to going back soon! If not to play, at least to have brunch …   Antique Bjur Bros...

Wedding Pianist: 2013 Review

Wedding Pianist: 2013 Review This was definitely my busiest year playing piano for weddings. In 2013, I had the privilege of helping everything run smoothly as couple after couple committed their lives to each other – it is quite an honor! I usually play for the ceremony, cocktail hour, or reception – or some combination of the three. Below are several pictures from wedding ceremonies I played for in 2013 in and around Washington, DC. Weddings are always such a happy time for families and friends, and it’s great fun to be part of that scene so often. I already have a couple of...

Wedding Reception at the Capitol Hill Club

A wedding reception last month brought me the privilege of playing at the magnificent Steinway at the Capitol Hill Club. Now that we have our own 7′ Baldwin, it isn’t often that I find myself at other pianos of equal or higher caliber than what I’m used to playing at home! This was an exception. I really enjoyed the mellow touch, strong resonance, and overall amazing dynamic depth that comes with concert grands. Strangely, a little sign next to the piano indicated that was only 6′ 10″, which is clearly not the case. Not wanting to make a complete fool of myself, I didn’t try to measure it in front of the wedding guests, but it looks pretty close to a concert grand (around 9′). Definitely longer than our 7′ Baldwin....

When The Saints Go Marching In

»Posted by on Mar 1, 2013 in Jam Sessions | 0 comments

This has become one of my most favorite songs to play! This video shows a few of us performing When the Saints Go Marching In at our rehearsal dinner, of all places. We didn’t have any time to rehearse this piece, and in fact, the drummer didn’t even know what the songs was when I started (I knew he could figure it out). Allison’s tap dance was a brilliant addition, and Tessa’s vocals helped bring the whole room along with us!
