Harry Connick Jr at Wolf Trap
WHAT A SHOW
The audience was not disappointed in the least: this was a full-blown, well-rounded, completely entertaining Harry Connick Jr concert to a sold-out Wolf Trap crowd. Connick’s stage presence and personal appeal are unparalleled, not to mention his chops! In addition to some piano (but not enough IMO) and plenty of vocals, he played trumpet, a bit of percussion, and several different keys instruments including a Hammond organ and an electric piano. Backing him up was a 6-piece string section, 6.5 piece horn section, 1.5 drummers and, for the second half, a guitar.
The sold-out audience at Wolf Trap was especially pleased with special guest Harry Connick Sr, who sang just one standard with his son.
In addition to standards, Connick played a medley from “When Harry Met Sally,” a funk tune, some gospel, plenty of New Orleans grooves, and a couple of songs from his two new albums.
Between songs we were thoroughly entertained by his banter and antics – very original, mostly positive, and downright hilarious. I swear this guy could have a great gig simply as a stand-up comic, much less a gifted singer and musician that has created his own unique and sought-after sound.
Pianist, singer, entertainer, composer, bandleader, dancer … he gave it all and we loved it!!
